Microangelo, the “Grand-Daddy” of icon editors, was created by Impact
Software in 1995. The name Microangelo was suggested by PixelPlace Co. a partner
and true friend of Impact Software. The name set the tone and goals and, as
unique as its name, Microangelo's unique capabilities have stood the test of time
from Windows 95 through Windows 10.
In 1998, Microangelo became the first icon utility to surpass 1,000,000 downloads
on CNET (download.com). Later, Microangelo introduced true
animated icons on the desktop, and when Windows XP was released, Microangelo was
the first icon editing tool capable of creating and editing alpha blended icons.
Today Microangelo is not only the leader in icon editing software for Windows, but has
now won the coveted Shareware Industry’s “Best Graphics Program or
Utility” award three years in a row
(2000,
2001,
2002) and the "Best Desktop Enhancement"
award as well (2004,
2005,
2006). We are very proud of these "three-peats",
which remain unmatched by any other software authors in the sixteen years of existence of the
Shareware Industry Awards. Microangelo was also awarded the 2002 “People’s Choice Award”
as the most popular software download at Simtel Networks.
